love it and the way it shine at night

Whatever you are. Be a good one.

There are so many really nice light sculptures/art installations out already, but Lighting designer Bruce Munro shows that there are never enough. And that they keep getting even more beautiful.

Munro´s famous Field of Light (an apppropriate name) will be shown at the Eden Project in Cornwall, England, this winter. It was inspired by the way the desert flowers after a rainstorm.

“Munro was transfixed by the way the red desert was barren until it rained and then, as if from nowhere, dormant seeds would burst into bloom. He made a series of sketches in the notebook carried in his pocket since art college days, and the idea refused to dislodge from his mind.

Field of Light, like a giant surreal camp-side banana, is an alien installation in the midst of nature. And like dry desert seeds lying in wait for the rain, the sculpture’s fibre optic stems lie dormant…

Harvest By Asif Khan

Asif Khan’s Harvest is a project that focuses on the use of London’s plant life as a raw material for everyday products and it’s part of a show called “Designers in Residence” at the Design Museum London. It reminds me a lot of a furniture version of the Chia Pet!

PANTONE ANNOUNCES FASHION COLOR REPORT FOR FALL 2010

Fantasy-inspired Color Combinations Invigorate the Fall Palette

CARLSTADT, N.J., Feb. 11, 2010 – Pantone LLC, an X-Rite company (NASDAQ: XRIT), and the global authority on color and provider of professional color standards for the design industries, today announced the PANTONE® Fashion Color Report Fall 2010. The report features the top 10 colors for women’s fashion for fall 2010, along with designer sketches, quotes and headshots, and is available for free download on the Pantone Web site at www.pantone.com/fall2010. The release of the PANTONE Fashion Color Report coincides with the beginning of New York Fashion Week.

The top colors for women’s fashion for fall 2010 are:

PANTONE 13-0632 Endive
PANTONE 15-1050 Golden Glow
PANTONE 16-1546 Living Coral
PANTONE 19-1764 Lipstick Red
PANTONE 18-3027 Purple Orchid
PANTONE 19-1526 Chocolate Truffle
PANTONE 16-5418 Lagoon
PANTONE 18-0538 Woodbine
PANTONE 14-1107 Oyster Gray
PANTONE 14-1307 Rose Dust

“Mindful of consumers’ need for practicality, plus their desire for newness, designers offer many options for women to extend and embellish their wardrobes this fall,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “Building on the color palette from spring, this season’s offerings include innovative takes on fundamental basics, as well as transporting, lively colors that conjure images of travel and adventure, whether real or aspirational.”

In addition to designer contributions, the report features commentary from fashion insiders and leading retailers regarding current fashion trends and new color rules for 2010. Industry gurus highlighted in the report include: India Hicks, creative partner at Crabtree & Evelyn; Cate Adair, costume designer for “Desperate Housewives”; Collier Strong, celebrity make-up artist; Eric Sauma, owner of Mood Fabrics (featured on “Project Runway”); and Constance White, style director at eBay. Contributors from Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue and Macy’s also offer their insights.

Fashion designers continue to exhibit a degree of caution for fall 2010, yet offer a palette of beauty and excitement with a blending of colors, some with similar undertones, in surprising and intriguing combinations. Inspired by the ongoing phenomenon of film animation, vivid colors are often juxtaposed in inventive ways, creating arresting and extraordinary color combinations.

Exotic Purple Orchid, a purple leaning to fuchsia, is an unexpected choice for fall, imbuing a bit of magic and vibrancy to the season. Elegant Chocolate Truffle, evocative of delicious treats, is a rich brown with piquant plum undertones, that pairs tastefully with Purple Orchid. Not your mother’s avocado green, Woodbine takes last season’s neutral greens to a whole new level, and when mixed with Purple Orchid and Chocolate Truffle, results in a stunning combination.

Lagoon, this season’s turquoise – Pantone’s 2010 color of the year – is guaranteed to add a tropical splash. A great color for fall and winter escapes, Lagoon is a popular hue, especially in accessories, pairing dynamically with all shades of red. Lipstick Red, a deeper, more dramatic sensual red, makes its imprint on fall, particularly in cosmetics.

Reminiscent of a radiant sunset on a brisk autumn evening, Golden Glow, an earthy, deepened shade of yellow, creates a retro look with Purple Orchid or Woodbine. A softer, more inviting orange with a hint of pink undertone, Living Coral is the perfect complement to Lagoon, whether heading for a tropical destination or just fantasizing about it. Crisp Endive, a revitalizing yellow-green, adds freshness to this season’s top ten, and will enliven any wardrobe. Add it to Lagoon, Chocolate Truffle and Purple Orchid for an invigorating fall look.

Oyster Gray, a classic neutral that grounds the palette, is a lighter take on the traditional fall gray, as designers heed consumers’ concern about the economy and deliver investment pieces that carry through to spring 2011. Rose Dust, a flattering beige, offers an ethereal, romantic, wispy option to span the seasons.

The colors featured in the PANTONE Fashion Color Report are culled from the PANTONE FASHION + HOME Color System, the most widely used and recognized color standards system in the world. Each season, Pantone surveys the designers of New York Fashion Week to collect feedback on prominent collection colors, color inspiration and color philosophy. This information is used to create the PANTONE Fashion Color Report, which serves as a reference tool throughout the year for fashion enthusiasts, reporters and retailers.

Pantone Unveils Color of the Year for 2010:
PANTONE 15-5519 Turquoise

Turquoise Transports Us to an Exciting, Tropical Paradise While Offering a Sense of Protection and Healing in Stressful Times

CARLSTADT, N.J., Dec. 8, 2009 –Pantone LLC, an X-Rite company (NASDAQ: XRIT), and the global authority on color and provider of professional color standards for the design industries, today announced PANTONE® 15-5519 Turquoise, an inviting, luminous hue, as the color of the year for 2010. Combining the serene qualities of blue and the invigorating aspects of green, Turquoise evokes thoughts of soothing, tropical waters and a languorous, effective escape from the everyday troubles of the world, while at the same time restoring our sense of wellbeing.

“In many cultures, Turquoise occupies a very special position in the world of color,” explains Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “It is believed to be a protective talisman, a color of deep compassion and healing, and a color of faith and truth, inspired by water and sky. Through years of color word-association studies, we also find that Turquoise represents an escape to many – taking them to a tropical paradise that is pleasant and inviting, even if only a fantasy.”

Whether envisioned as a tranquil ocean surrounding a tropical island or a protective stone warding off evil spirits, Turquoise is a color that most people respond to positively. It is universally flattering, has appeal for men and women, and translates easily to fashion and interiors. With both warm and cool undertones, Turquoise pairs nicely with any other color in the spectrum. Turquoise adds a splash of excitement to neutrals and browns, complements reds and pinks, creates a classic maritime look with deep blues, livens up all other greens, and is especially trend-setting with yellow-greens.

In fashion, Turquoise makes a statement that can look elegant and dressy in fine silk and gemstones, or casual and fun in cotton and athletic apparel. Because of its versatility, Turquoise is a great accent color in jewelry, purses, shoes, hair accessories and even nail polish for women, and ties, shirts and sportswear for men.

For brides wanting a flattering choice for attendant apparel and accessories on their big day, Turquoise is now one of the nearly 200 PANTONE WEDDING Colors available from Dessy, a leading manufacturer of bridesmaid, social occasion and flower girl dresses, as well as destination wedding gowns under the labels Dessy Collection, After Six, Alfred Sung, Lela Rose Bridesmaid and Sandals Destination Wedding Dresses. Pantone Reveals 2011 Color Inspiration and Direction for the Home Furnishings and Interior Design Industries

PANTONE VIEW home + interiors 2011 Empowers Designers to Ignite Consumer Spending

CHICAGO, International Home & Housewares Show 2010, PANTONE ColorWatch Display (Lakeside Lobby Level 3) – March 15, 2010 – Pantone LLC, an X-Rite company (NASDAQ: XRIT) and the global authority on color and provider of professional color standards for the design industries, today introduced PANTONE® VIEW home + interiors 2011, a trend forecast containing the nine most directional color palettes for home furnishings and interior design in 2011.

“In today’s complex and challenging marketplace, color has the unique ability to attract and engage the eye, elicit emotion, enhance products and environments, and ultimately tempt the consumer or client to buy. Color is the catalyst that can spark the sale, define the space and create the magic and mood,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “PANTONE VIEW home + interiors 2011 provides designers the color palette direction they need to invigorate a product line and create the perfect excitement or comfort level, whether on the sales floor or in the home.”

PANTONE VIEW home + interiors 2011 is a forecasting book that provides color and trend direction, enabling designers to select the right color combinations for home furnishings or interior spaces. PANTONE VIEW home + interiors 2011 contains visual inspiration, suggested color harmonies and swatches of the 77 forecasted colors, plus the PANTONE FASHION + HOME digital color library for direct download into design software. PANTONE VIEW home + interiors 2011 also includes imagery for download into presentations and storyboards.

The nine palettes for 2011 are: Cottage Industry, Simply Stated, Style and Substance, Clarity, Fragments, Archetypes, Focal Points, Mixed Media and Wit and Whimsy.

Inventiveness is key when taking a tried and true theme and marrying it with modern day sensibilities in Cottage Industry. Quiet pastels like light blue, pink and golden yellow, along with a group of tasty neutrals, are integrated into an easy compatibility. The palette is rooted by earthy brick red and given added stability by a solid rock gray.

Simplicity and comfort meet urban rustic in Simply Stated. A melding of supple and firm surfaces casually construct a sense of understated style. Colors are easy on the eye yet not without surprise in this blend of dusty rose, avocado, antique moss, deep periwinkle blue, warm taupe and angora white.

Elegance and sophistication are two words often used to define style, and in this particular palette, titled Style and Substance, a blend of colors succinctly gets the message across. Jet black and metallics of gold and silver are juxtaposed against subtle blue and frosted gray, while two substantive purples are flavored by the addition of a wine-ish brown, aptly named chocolate truffle.

Clarity illustrates a very clean approach to design and color – uncomplicated and straightforward with no extraneous details. It is the essence of purity. This well-defined palette shows a striking contrast between the Zen of cool blues and greens, and the pristine presence of pure white, sparked by the opposite contrast of a mystical mauve, violet and Tibetan red.

A compilation of varying cultures from all over the globe, Fragments picks up pieces of diverse places and weaves them into an integrated whole. Kilims and carpets, found fabrics, ornamental beads and even discarded bottle caps destined for landfills are cleverly joined to form an eclectically colored patchwork of amber, grenadine red, hot pink, baked clay, citron, grape, cadmium green and bright gold.

Classics never go out of style – they are the Archetypes of design and color that are seemingly ageless. While they often reflect a historical time period, standard classics will look au courant when updated or reinvented through styling, pattern and texture. And just as fashion repeatedly illustrates, basics such as black, brown, beige, gray and taupe can also be redefined in the home by introducing colorful accents through the pulsating rhythm of a bossa nova red.

Converging colors create a pathway that invariably leads the eye to a given spot. When the hues are both bold and uniquely combined, the effect is even more intense. Focal Points is a palette of the warm advancing shades of muskmelon, clay and burnt coral, ultimately introduced to the drama of aurora red, purples and wine, making for theatrical, intriguing color combinations.

Just as the name implies, Mixed Media brings together examples of various fabrications and colors. It is a diverse group of skillfully rendered surface treatments headlined by the light reflective properties of many of the materials. Contrast is provided by complex patterning and the subtle use of deep teal, as well as aqua, ermine, ochre and berry, deftly highlighted by the metallic glimmer of rich gold, copper and frosted almond.

Wit and Whimsy is a fanciful palette that invites us to put on a happy face. It is as tempting as a dish of jellybeans – you can’t stop with just one. An energized yellow-green plays against a not-too-pretentious pink, while carrot and coral call out to be cooled down by ultramarine and clematis blue. Bright yellow and bachelor button form a playful duo and all is sweetened by a smattering of brown sugar.
